In Japanese, “kanzen” (完全) generally means perfection or completeness. Though this painting is far from perfect. It is a little crooked, the lines aren’t straight. But that’s okay. I was inspired by another Japanese philosophy named wabi sabi, which celebrates the beauty of imperfection. It appreciates the beauty in the flaw. I too am fond of organic things, and I steer clear of the straight and harsh. My hope is to one day find myself in Japan, for the sense of harmony the ancient culture invokes.
